Chin correction and neck lifts in Zug

Our skin naturally slackens as we age, which can lead to visible excess skin on the chin and neck; some people develop a double chin as a result, which can have a major effect on the overall look of the face and neck. Stubborn fat deposits can impact the appearance of the chin even further. Most of the time, this change cannot be reversed using non-surgical methods, but a neck lift can help give the area a younger, firmer look again. If indicated, the procedure can be combined with liposuction of the chin for even better results. Other patients are troubled by inherited cosmetic traits, such as a receding chin, an overly large or small chin, or a protruding chin; corrective chin surgery may be an option in such cases.

Operation or minimally invasive treatment?

Plastic surgery offers a variety of options for contouring the chin and neck. Besides the extensive surgical possibilities such as chin correction and neck lifts, various minimally invasive therapies can provide the desired results for certain indications. Thread lifts, for example, can be used to tighten and firm neck skin; hyaluronic acid, Botox®, needling, lasers, and radiofrequency therapy can all help reduce wrinkles and tighten the platysma muscle in the neck. Modern cosmetic medicine also offers numerous regenerative procedures with a general rejuvenation effect. “Turkey neck,“ for example, results from changes to the skin’s collagen network: getting too much sun causes collagen type I to change into collagen types III through IX. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy can help reverse this process and restore the appearance of the neck.

In order to sift through the spectrum of available options to develop your individual treatment concept, we will start with a personal consultation and examination at my clinic, so that we can discuss your specific concerns and goals and identify the ideal approach. First, we will determine whether a minimally invasive method will yield the results you are looking for, or whether surgery is advisable. After that, I will explain the procedure thoroughly, including the potential risks and any necessary follow-up care.

With significant amounts of excess skin, an operation is usually necessary to remove the tissue and contour the neck area. Adjustments to individual areas (e.g., contouring the jawline), on the other hand, work wonderfully with fat grafting (lipofilling) or hyaluronic acid. Different procedures can also be combined to achieve optimum results.

Chin correction

What happens in corrective chin surgery?

Double chins—the common name for a buildup of excess fat or skin underneath the chin—are a frequent source of frustration for patients. I remove stubborn fat tissue using liposuction, drawing it out of the body using a special cannula in order to give the chin a more pleasing contour. When sagging skin is the problem, I remove it using an incision on the underside of the chin, which ensures that the scar will be practically invisible later on.

When the overall shape of the chin is an issue (receding chin, for example), a chin implant can provide the desired correction. Lipofilling (fillers using tissue taken from the patient’s own body) can also be used to build up the chin area.

Neck lifts

What to expect during a neck lift

Neck lifts are often done in combination with face lifts in order to create a smooth transition from the face to the cleavage. In the procedure, I reduce the excess slack skin on the neck and tighten it as well as the muscles. If necessary, additional liposuction can remove any bothersome fat deposits in the neck area.

After the procedure

Recovery and follow-up care

Recovery time and follow-up care both depend on the type and scope of the procedure. Rest and recovery are important following an extensive operation; patients should give themselves up to three weeks before returning to work and their usual routines. Bandages protect and support the area as it heals. In order to minimize the risk of microscopic particles causing infection, patients should avoid wearing make-up until the surgical incisions have completely healed / the sutures are removed. The chin and neck will also need to be shielded from direct UV exposure.

Recovery times and follow-up care are less extensive after minimally invasive procedures; most patients require only a few days of rest. I would be happy to discuss any specific work or lifestyle considerations with you in person.
