Lip augmentation in Zug

Hyaluronic acid is a protein essential to the human body; connective tissue contains a particularly high percentage. Because it is capable of binding a great deal of water, hyaluronic acid is often used in aesthetic medicine as a filler, for example to smooth wrinkles or contour individual areas (cheeks, mouth, etc.). Though the hyaluronic acid compounds used in treatment are artificially manufactured, they are so similar to naturally occurring hyaluronic acid that the body can break them down almost completely—and allergic reactions should theoretically be next to impossible.

Another good filler material is the body’s own fat tissue. The fat is harvested using liposuction (e.g., from the stomach, the thighs, the upper arms, etc.) and specially processed before being injected into the destination areas, where it is soon incorporated into the surrounding tissue. Fat grafting provides long-lasting or even permanent plumping effects. This method is used in a variety of procedures, such as breast augmentation, Brazilian butt lifts, wrinkle treatment, anti-aging skin treatment, and lip augmentation.

I adjust the lip contouring process to each of my patients individually, which is why we start with a personal consultation appointment so that I can find out what you want and expect. Once we have discussed what is bothering you and what changes you would like to make, I will explain the lip augmentation process to you and answer any questions you may have. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that fits your needs and will provide natural, attractive results. Patients do not usually need to make any special preparations before having their lips contoured. If you take prescription blood thinners, I would be glad to advise you on ways to minimize the risk of bruising.

Lip treatments are usually done on an outpatient basis, and generally take no longer than 30 minutes. We will start by applying a numbing cream to your lips, since they are particularly sensitive and require special care. After that, I use a thin cannula to inject the filler—usually hyaluronic acid—directly beneath the skin of the lips. The exact process will vary depending on what your specific lips are lacking (e.g., volume, contour, symmetry); modern aesthetic medicine offers several methods of shaping naturally beautiful-looking lips.

If desired, we can also contour your lips using autologous (= your own) fat and blood. To do this, I inject several small deposits of the chosen filler beneath the skin, which allows me to model the results for an even more natural look. My patients never have to worry about ending up with rubber-dinghy lips—I place great importance on individual, natural results for all of my procedures.

Minimally invasive injections are not the only method of enhancing lips; we can also plump them surgically. To perform a lip lift, I remove a thin strip of tissue from between the nose and the upper lip, and then suture the area again. This lifts the lip slightly so that more “red” is visible, which makes the lips look larger and fuller. This procedure results in lips that are permanently fuller, though it is performed relatively infrequently.
